The Process
I engage in a straightforward and stepwise approach to calculate a customized quote for your editing project.
01 Consult
We meet briefly to clarify the scope, purpose, audience, stage, goals, and timelines of your project. This enables you to ensure my editing services
are a strong fit to achieve
your goals. I will try to point
you to other resources that could meet your needs in
the case I am not the ideal match for your project.
02 Test
I conduct a test edit
of a reasonable sample of
your material. This enables
me to provide an accurate recommendation on the type of editing and level of editing that your project needs to achieve your specific goals. This test also enables me to determine if I can meet your preferred timelines.
03 Assess
I determine the pace, effort, and expertise required to effectively address the following key elements
of your project:

-
the number of pages
-
the type of editing
-
the level of editing
-
the number of review cycles
-
the preferred timelines
Guiding Principles
I follow a specific set of principles to ensure my rates represent an ethical, objective,
and accurate assessment of the value I will bring to your project.
01 Proficiency
I recommend you collaborate with an editor whose unique energy, skills, and philosophy best align with your goals and needs. You can gauge the value of an editor through a combination of the following key factors:
-
training and education
-
specialized knowledge or subject matter expertise
-
relevant experience
-
willingness to customize or personalize services
-
personality and work style
02 Integrity
There is a wide range of rates, fees, and skills within the
global editing sector. Editors Canada offers generic guidelines on the amount of professional effort required
to complete a project based
on the type of editing and level of editing. The table below outlines basic industry standards that I apply to generate a trustworthy quote. Please note, one page of content is defined as
250 words of text.
03 Transparency
Although I support clients
from across the world, I
always calculate my rates in Canadian dollars to ensure
my fees integrate an honest reflection of my local
business costs, tax rates,
and expenses. Fortunately,
all foreign clients can still pay for my services in the currency
of their choice through
Stripe, the online payment processing system that I
use for invoicing.
Industry Standards
Editors Canada offers generic guidelines on the minimum amount of professional effort required to complete
the initial round of high-quality revisions for a project based on the type of editing and level of editing. The following table
outlines the industry standards that I apply as a guideline to generate a trustworthy quote. I also assume that each additional round of editing will require less time unless there is a decision to perform major structural changes to the material. Please note, professional editors define one page of content as 250 words of text.
